UAPB Earns Season Sweep of BulldogsBoxscore RUSTON, La. ? Arkansas-Pine Bluff got double-digit scoring from three players and benefited from 31.6-percent shooting by Louisiana Tech to earn a 61-49 victory over the Bulldogs in front of 2,029 at Thomas Assembly Center on Tuesday night.
?I thought defensively we really stepped up tonight,? Tech head coach Kerry Rupp said. ?Our offense needs to catch up. We did a good job of bringing energy and intensity tonight.?
Tech (1-6) was limited to 29-percent shooting in the first half and improved only slightly after the break, but the Bulldogs did knock down six three-pointers in the contest. The Bulldogs also once again struggled at the free throw line, only shooting 53.8 percent from the stripe.
Jonathan ?JC? Clark led the Bulldogs with 11 points and also pulled down six rebounds in 32 minutes off the bench. Junior point guard
James Loe, making his second start of the season, poured in 10 points and knocked down two big three-pointers.
UAPB (3-5) was led by William Byrd with 16 points, six rebounds and five blocks. Terrance Calvin and Marcelle Goins added 10 apiece, and Jarvis Gunter pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. The Golden Lions shot 49.0 percent on the night with nearly half their points coming in the paint.
The Bulldogs were outrebounded 37-31, but only turned the ball over 11 times on the night. Tech led 19-18 with 7:02 to play in the first half, but the Golden Lions would take the lead seconds later and never trail again. It marked the second win over Tech by the Golden Lions this season as UAPB took a 67-54 victory in Pine Bluff.
Louisiana Tech will be working on short rest Thursday night as the Bulldogs face Centenary at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., and plenty of good seats are still available. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 97.7 FM with
