Warriors Beat Bulldogs 74-50 SaturdayBoxscoreHONOLULU, Hawaii -- Long range shooting would be the theme for Saturday night?s contest between Louisiana Tech (7-17; 5-7 WAC) and Hawaii (14-10; 5-6 WAC) as the Warriors downed the Bulldogs 74-50 in the Stan Sheriff Center.
?First of all, I want to give all credit in the world to Hawaii for shooting the lights out,? Tech head coach Keith Richard said. ?They made all kinds of shots. Whether we were in man or a zone, they found a way to score, even with contested shots.?
The Warriors jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first 30 seconds of the game before sophomore
Drew Washington hit a three-pointer at the 19:19 mark to tie the game. In the first five minutes of the game, the two teams combined for five three-pointers, and Hawaii led 14-10 with 14:58 on the clock.
It would turn into a three-point shooting clinic for the remainder of the first half thanks to Tech senior
Trey McDowell and Hawaii junior Matt Gibson as both finished the half with four threes apiece. McDowell finished the half with 16 points, while Gibson finished with 13 as the Warriors took a 40-28 lead into the locker room.
Hawaii?s hot shooting would continue for the second half, and the Warriors finished with the 74-50 win.
?We did play really hard tonight,? Richard said. ?Even in the loss, I thought we played hard. But you can?t play at their tempo. We would up losing track of the scout and getting away from our game plan.?
McDowell led the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points. Hawaii was led by junior Bobby Nash with 18, as well.
The Bulldogs will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 14, to take on the Idaho Vandals in the Thomas Assembly Center at 7 p.m.
