RUSTON -- A last second shot from senior Trey McDowell would not drop Thursday as the Fresno State Bulldogs (19-8; 7-6 WAC) edged by the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (9-18; 6-8 WAC) 64-63 in the Thomas Assembly Center.

?This was a great game,? Tech head coach Keith Richard said. ?These were two teams that really battled for forty minutes. Much like the first time we played them this year, they made plays in the last minutes of the game that helped them win.?

McDowell starting the scoring for Tech?s Bulldogs with a jumper at the 18:24 mark in the first half to give Tech a 2-0 lead. Senior Jerome Richardson added to the lead with a lay-up with 17:44 on the clock for a 4-0 lead.

After a Fresno basket, sophomore Drew Washington drained a 17-footer for a 6-2 Tech lead. Washington?s basket sparked a 12-5 run over the next four minutes for a 16-7 score.

Fresno State rallied with a run of its own and tied the game at 18 apiece with 8:12 left in the half and took the 21-20 lead with a foul-and-the-shot from Dominic McGuire at the 6:17 mark. Fresno led 32-26 at the half.

Tech pawed its way back to a 40-39 lead with 14 minutes left to go in the game with a basket-and-a-foul from Richardson, who added the free throw for a 41-39 lead.

Fresno reclaimed the lead with a three pointer shortly after from Quinton Hosley with 11:12 left to play. Senior Chad McKenzie took the lead back with a lay-up with 10:10 on the clock for a 45-44 score.

Both teams battled to the finish before the final gun to give Fresno the 64-63 win.

?This was a tough game,? Richard said. ?It was a typical WAC game late in the season. Both teams fought hard. I wish we could?ve made one more shot at the end.?

McDowell led Tech in scoring with 16 points. Senior Chad McKenzie added 13 points with eight rebounds. McGuire led Fresno with 19.

Tech will return to action Saturday night at home for senior night against the Utah State Aggies in the Thomas Assembly Center at 7 p.m. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
