HONOLULU -- Hawaii scored three goals in the second half to come from behind and defeat Louisiana Tech 4-2 late Sunday night Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Tech (10-4-5, 0-2-4) led 2-1 at the half but it took Hawaii (6-6-4) only 10 seconds into the second half to tie it up on a penalty kick and then the Rainbow Wahine scored two more goals for the win on Senior Night.
"I give Hawaii a lot of credit," said Tech head coach Kevin Sherry. "However, we gave them three goals on mental mistakes in the second half, the first coming from the kick to start the half.
"Hawaii's players were more mentally tough than us. We have made great strides this year and I'm proud of the players for what they have achieved so far. We had Hawaii worried tonight and you couldn't have said that in the past."
Tech took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Olivia Lukasewich in the 12th minute. Lukasewich took a pass from Hikari Kurokawa on a break away and shot it into the net past Hawaii keeper Kori Lu.
The lead remained 1-0 until Hawaii tied it up in the 38th minute when Nicole Mikula scored on a free kick.
However, it took the Lady Techsters only a minute to regain the lead as Amy Wolsted scored on a penalty kick in the 39th minute as Tech led 2-1 heading into halftime.
Hawaii tied it on a penalty kick by Ambree Ako in the 46th minute and then took its first lead of the game in the 64th minute on a goal by Rachel Domingo. The Rainbow Wahine added an insurance goal in the 85th minute on a goal by Taryn Fukuroku.
Tech ends its regular season Friday when the Lady Techsters host WAC-leading Utah State at 7 p.m. at Ruston Junior High School.
The Lady Techsters are still fighting for a spot in the upcoming WAC Tournament and a win against the Aggies on Senior Night would most likely secure the position (only the top 6 teams qualify).
