SAN JOSE, Calif. - Louisiana Tech sophomore Matthew Harvey was named first team all-Western Athletic Conference by the league golf coaches, announced the league office Wednesday following the championships.
Harvey is Louisiana Tech's first golfer to be named first team all-league since the university joined the conference in 2001.
The Georgetown, Texas, native led the Bulldogs all season, recording a team-best 73.13 scoring average. Harvey earned five Top 20 finishes this season, including winning the 2007 Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Invitational with a seven-under-par 209.
Harvey fired a final round 64 at the event to best 95 other golfers.
He finished third at the First Tee Intercollegiate, sixth at the Jaguar Intercollegiate, ninth at the Louisiana Classics and 12th at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate.
Harvey was tied for 12th heading into Wednesday's final round of the 2008 WAC Championships before having to withdrawal due to health reasons.
