RUSTON -- Kristen Sevier's goal in the first half led Louisiana Tech to a 1-0 victory over Troy Sunday afternoon helping the Lady Techsters claim the championship of the Troy Trojans Soccer Classic.
Tech claimed the championship crown -- the first in the program's history in any 11-on-11 tournament -- after also defeating Alabama State 5-1 on Friday.
"Everyone is really, really happy," said Tech head coach Kevin Sherry. "This is the first trophy this program has ever won in an 11 aside tournament.
"It was a very professional performance by us. We were very organized. It was very, very professional and pleasing to see. Troy is a good team. They were undefeated until this weekend. They had scored a ton of goals so for us to keep them off the score sheet was pretty good."
Sevier's goal came in the 21st minute of the game on a shot from the right hand side of the penalty area as the freshman midfielder sent it high into the far corner of the net. Hikari Kurokawa was credited with an assist on the play.
Defensively, the Lady Techsters (6-2) dominated the game, allowing only six shots the entire 90 minutes with only three of those being shots on goal by the Trojans.
Tech goalkeeper Cat Buchanan recorded her third shutout of the season, stopping all three shots she faced.
The Lady Techsters held Jill Pinder, former Techster letterwinner and the nation's leading scorer, without a shot for the entire contest.
Pinder entered the game having scored 13 goals in eight games and Troy (5-2-2) as a team had averaged almost four goals per contest. It marked the first time the Trojans had been shut out all season long.
"We are improving all the time," Sherry said. "We are going in the right direction and I can see it. I'm really happy with where we are right now. The girls know they can do even better and that what inspires them to keep working."
The shutout was Tech's fifth this season.
In addition to the Lady Techsters claiming the trophy, three Tech players earned all-tournament team honors including Amy Wolstead, Kiva Gresham and Amy Quintana.
Tech returns to action Tuesday with a 6 p.m. match at Southern.
