FRESNO, Calif. -- Despite staying close for 30 minutes, Louisiana Tech (8-11; 2-4 WAC) fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs (8-11; 1-4 WAC) Thursday night in the Save Mart Center by a final score of 63-46.
"We had bad shooting and bad ball movement tonight," Tech head coach Kerry Rupp said. "We got into foul trouble in the first half. We wanted to take better care of the basketball in the second half. We played soft tonight, and we need to tighten up. We got in too much of a hurry and shot poorly. We're going to have to tighten up and toughen up."
Junior Kyle Gibson opened the game with a quick three-pointer, while junior Jamel Guyton followed on Tech's ensuing possession with his first three on the night to give Tech the lead 6-0.
Fresno, however, climbed back in and took its first lead 9-8 at 13:40.
Tech retook lead 14-13 at the 10:30 mark when Guyton hit his third-three of the first half and again with a jump-hook in the lane from David Jackson 20-19 under eight minutes.
Fresno kept offensive upper hand, however, and led 36-32 despite Guyton's offensive barrage of three-pointers. Guyton finished with 17 first half points thanks in part to five triples.
Tech would not regain the lead in the second half and Fresno would get the 63-46 win.
Guyton's 17 points led Tech for the night, while Paul George led Fresno State with 16 points.
Tech returns to action Saturday, Jan. 24, at 3 p.m. to take on the Boise State Broncos in the Taco Bell Arena. The game will be broadcast live on Cox Sports TV local channel 26 and over the internet at www.espn360.com for internet providers that provide the service.
KXKZ 107.5 FM will handle the radio broadcast with an audio feed available on the internet at www.z1075fm.com.
