LA Tech Ends Season with 5-0 Loss to Nevada

Nov. 1, 2009

Final Stats

RENO, Nev. - A record-breaking season came to a disappointing end as Louisiana Tech lost to Nevada 5-0 on Sunday in Reno, Nev.

Tech went into halftime down 1-0, but Nevada scored four goals in the second period to end the Lady Techsters season at 12-7-1 overall and 1-7 in the Western Athletic Conference.

"We saved our worse performance for the last game of the season," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "It was a sad way to end the season."

Senior Kat McCullough finished her Lady Techster career leading the team in shots with five and shots on goal with three. Sophomore Chelsea White, sophomore Scotti Culton and sophomore Rachel King each recorded a shot on goal.

Louisiana Tech took 12 shots in the game, nine in the second period. The Wolf Pack (8-11, 5-3 WAC) had 15 shots, 10 on goal.

Five goals were the most LA Tech has given up since allowing 10 goals to Utah State in Sherry's first season.

"We are going to take a good hard look at ourselves and that includes me," Sherry said. "We are going to see what we need to do to improve. We definitely need to work harder to improve because what we showed today was not good enough. That was the worse performance that I've ever seen since I've been at Louisiana Tech. It was sad that Kat and Hikari (Kurokawa) had to finish their careers on such a note, to me that was the saddest thing."

Tech ends the 2009 season with the most wins in school history. They set seven team records and nine individual season and career records. They lose just two seniors off this year's squad.

"We achieved our goal," Sherry said. "It was to get the program's first-ever WAC win, now we work to build on this."
