Techsters Drop Match One of Sugar Bear Classic

CONWAY, Ark. - The Louisiana Tech volleyball team dropped their first match of the Sugar Bear Classic Thursday as the Techsters (6-3) fell to the host team Central Arkansas (5-2)in four sets. Set scores were 25-16, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21.

This match marks the first time the Techsters have lost their first match of a tournament this season. Before the team was 2-0 in tournament's opening matches.

After getting off to a rough start by dropping set one by a score of 25-16 the Techsters would settle into a bit of a groove in set two as Louisiana Tech tied the match at one set a piece. However, the Techsters would struggle with their hitting accuracy all night recording a .136 hitting percentage for the entire match and the Sugar Bears would take the final two sets, 25-17 and 25-21. Central Arkansas registered a .316 hitting percentage for the match.

Sophomore Natasha Kolunija tied a career high with 13 kills while leading all Techsters in that department for the match. Also recording double-digit kills was Jennifer Goodwin with 11 while also totaling six digs.

Nataliya Panova was able to be contained all night, only recording 4 kills in the match. However, the team leader in kills so far this season was able to lead the team in digs tonight with 12.

Louisiana Tech will return to the court tomorrow afternoon as the team takes on Air Force (5-3) at 12:00 p.m. followed by a match vs. Arkansas Pine-Bluff (0-3) at 4:00 p.m. The Techsters topped UAPB in straight sets in the team's first match of the season.
