McCullough Leads Techsters to Win

Sept. 18, 2009

Final Stats

ITTA BENA, Miss. - Senior Kat McCullough scored two goals as Louisiana Tech went on the road and defeated Mississippi Valley State 4-1 Friday night in wet conditions at MVSU Soccer Field.

With the victory, the Lady Techsters (9-0) extended their program record winning streak to nine games entering Sunday's home contest against UALR which is set for 1 p.m.

"Today was a great win against a very competitive Mississippi Valley State team," said Tech head coach Kevin Sherry. "The environment was intense and the field was very wet which hampered our style of play.

"I am so proud of the team for the way they stood up for each other, and the way they responded in the second half."

Tech took an early 1-0 lead on McCullough's first goal of the game in the seventh minute on an assist from teammate Olivia Lukasewich.

Mississippi Valley State tied the game at 1-1 in the 17th minute on a goal by Kayla Boyd as the two teams entered the halftime locker room even.

However, head coach Kevin Sherry's team struck early in the second half as Mo Rockwell scored in the 50th minute to give the Lady Techsters a 2-1 advantage.

McCullough then increased the lead to 3-1 with her second goal of the evening, this one coming on a penalty kick in the 69th minute of the game. McCullough now has four goals on the season, three coming in the last two games.

Rachel King then scored her program record 11th goal of the season in the 83rd minute to give LA Tech the 4-1 victory.

Cat Buchanan picked up the win in the net, allowing the one goal while recording three saves.

Tech outshot MVSU 17-4, including 9-4 on shots on goal.

The Lady Techsters return to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host UALR at 1 p.m.
