Louisiana Tech will attempt to win its seventh-straight game as they host conference preseason favorite Utah State on Monday at 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs (13-2, 1-0 Western Athletic Conference) are coming off a 77-71 win over Nevada on Saturday. Senior Jamel Guyton led five Tech players in double-figures with 21 points. Sophomore Olu Ashaolu continued his rebounding dominance with 12 rebounds against the Wolf Pack and finished with 33 rebounds for the week. He has a double-double in each of his last two games and has seven this season.
Kyle Gibson leads the conference and ranks 16th in the NCAA in scoring with 21.3 points per game. The remainder of the starting five is also averaging double-figures with Magnum Rolle at 12.8, Guyton at 12.7, Ashaolu at 12.3 and DeAndre Brown at 10.8.
Utah State (10-5, 0-1 WAC) is coming off its lowest scoring output of the season, a 55-52 point loss at New Mexico State on Saturday. Still, the Aggies were picked to win the conference and return four starters off last year's WAC Championship team that went 30-5. They advanced to the NCAA Tournament, its 10th straight post season appearance under 2009 WAC Coach of the Year Stew Morrill.
Tai Wesley leads the Aggies in scoring with 14 points and rebounding with a 6.9 average. Jared Qualyle joined Rolle on the WAC All-Newcomer team last season and is currently averaging 11.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
The Aggies lead the all-time series 8-1 and have won the last four meetings.
