SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Louisiana Tech volleyball team dropped a hard-fought conference match as San Jose State upended the Lady Techsters in three sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-23) Saturday night at Spartan Gym.
Tech was led offensively by Kara Jones and Kassia Pinto who added 14 and 10 kills respectively. Setter Bianca Bin recorded her seventh 30-plus dig performance of the season, picking up 35 assists on the night.
The Lady Techsters jumped out to an early 5-3 lead before the Spartans would go on a 5-0 scoring run. Briefly knotting the score at nine apiece, Tech was unable to overcome the San Jose offensive attack as the Spartans cruised to a 25-21 set win.
The second set began with both teams trading mini scoring runs before evening the score at five apiece. However, the Spartans would build a seven point lead courtesy of an 11-4 scoring outburst. The Lady Techsters would cut the deficit to 18-15 but San Jose State outhit Tech .256 to .205 to take the second set, 25-22.
Trailing two sets out of the break, Tech immersed themselves in a hotly contested third frame. With a total of 17 ties and 11 lead changes in the frame, no team garnered more than a two point lead. However, that would prove to be the difference as San Jose State broke away from a 23-23 tied to capture the last two points of the match via consecutive attack errors by Tech.
Louisiana Tech (10-10, 0-5) returns to action Thursday at 7 p.m. with a home match against conference foe Idaho.
