RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech volleyball team was outhit .273 to .070 by Boise State as the Broncos swept past the Lady Techsters (25-17, 25-21, 25-19) Saturday night inside the Thomas Assembly Center.
Senior Kara Jones picked up 10 kills on the evening to lead the Techster offense while Taylor Fritz added nine.
The first set was evenly contested at the onset as the two squads traded points back-and-forth to knot the score at six points apiece. However, Boise State would put together a five point scoring run following a kill by senior Sadie Maughan. For the Lady Techsters, the offense was never able to establish an effective passing attack as Tech hit -.026 in the frame. Trailing 24-14, Tech was able to fend off the set point and take three-straight points; however, it wasn't enough as Boise captured the first set, 25-17.
Looking to rebound in the second set, Tech jumped out to a 7-3 lead behind three kills from Taylor Fritz and one apiece from Kara Jones and Clara Vido. Boise State would respond by tying the score at 10 before taking an 11-10 lead. Both squads battled in the second set to the tune of nine ties and three lead changes. Following a questionable call that resulted in an attack error by Fritz to give the Broncos a 22-21 lead, Boise State closed out the second set on a 4-0 scoring run to take a two set lead heading into the break.
Returning from the break, Tech was unable to find their groove as Boise raced out to an 8-4 lead before extending their lead courtesy of consecutive service aces. The Lady Techsters never really caught a break in the third set as the Broncos cruised to a 25-19 win, wrapping up the sweep.
With the loss, Tech falls to 2-16 all-time against Boise State.
Louisiana Tech (10-12, 0-7) returns to action next week with a pair of road matches against Utah State and Nevada.
