LOGAN, Utah - The Louisiana Tech volleyball team fell in three sets (13-25, 23-25, 12-25) to Utah State Thursday night inside the Smith Spectrum.
Louisiana Tech (10-13, 0-8) was outhit .245 to .051 on the evening. The Techsters were led offensively by Kara Jones' .429 attack percentage and six kills while Kassia Pinto added seven. Lori Hunsucker picked up 18 digs on the night.
Tech got off to a slow start in the first set by spotting Utah State an 8-3 lead. However, Tech would cut the deficit to three points behind a kill by Jones to bring the score to 13-10. The Aggies responded to Tech's charge and capitalized off of a Liz McArthur kill to spearhead a 12-3 scoring run to close out the first set.
After adjusting to the atmosphere, Tech found a spark in the second set.
Matching the Aggies point for point to begin the frame, the Lady Techsters broke through and put together a 4-0 scoring run highlighted by back-to-back kills from freshman Clara Vido to take a 12-8 lead. Forcing a Utah State timeout, Tech extended their lead to five points forcing yet another Aggie timeout.
However, after regrouping on the baseline, the Utah State offense came to life. Despite Tech jumping out to a 17-12 lead, Utah State stormed back to take the second set 25-23 putting the Techsters in a 2-0 hole heading into the break.
With a heartbreaking loss in the second frame, Tech was never able to create any momentum in the final set as Utah State cruised to a 25-12 set win to finish the sweep.
Louisiana Tech concludes a two-game road trip on Saturday night as the Techsters square-off against Nevada at 9 p.m.
