LAS CRUCES, N.M - One of the nations top scoring duos struck again as the Louisiana Tech soccer team beat New Mexico State on Friday at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

Goals by junior Rachel King and senior Kiva Gresham, one of four pairs of teammates in the country that have scored at least 10 goals this season, improved Louisiana Tech to 15-5 overall and 5-3 in the Western Athletic Conference. New Mexico State fell to 7-8-3 overall (1-6-1, WAC).

"The first half was very good," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "We knew New Mexico State was gong to come out and give 100 percent. They matched our intensity so it was good to get those two goals. In the second half they pressured us well. Overall it's good to not have anyone score on you."

The goal by King was her 13th of the season, breaking her own school record set last season. It came in the 27th minute of play and was assisted by junior Olivia Lukasewich.

"She looked strong today and I thought it was one of the best games she's played," Sherry said.

In the 44th minute, two New Mexico natives own put a damper on the Aggies senior night as Gresham scored her 12th of the season on a header in the 44th minute off a corner kick from freshman Taylor Dennis. Both are from Albuquerque, N.M. and attended Highland High School.

"There was a big cheer in the crowd because there was a lot of family in the stadium," Sherry said. "There was a lot of noise when those two combined for a goal."

Tech nearly had a third goal in the second half as freshman Paige Dunn made a great shot from about 25 yards out from the left side. The ball barely made it in the corner of the goal, but it was disallowed as the Lady Techsters were called offsides.

"That would have been the best goal I've ever seen," Sherry said, "and I've seen a lot of goals."

The Lady Techsters took nine shots, three on goal. NMSU took 10 shots, four on goal as Tech goalkeeper Caitlin Updyke recorded her seventh shutout of the season passing teammate Cat Buchanan who set the record last season.

Louisiana Tech will continue its best season in school history at the WAC Tournament held in Ruston at the Lady Techster Soccer Field Nov. 4, 5 and 7. The opponent, day and time will be announced on Sunday.
