RUSTON, La. - Despite 10 digs and eight kills from Jennifer Goodwin, the Louisiana Tech volleyball team fell to Fresno State in three sets (22-25, 17-25, 18-25) Saturday night at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Goodwin led the Techsters with a .294 attack percentage while Clara Vido added 10 kills and seven digs. Fresno State outhit Tech .211 to .127.
Brianna Clarke led Fresno State with a match-high 15 kills and a .560 attack percentage.
Seeking back-to-back conference wins, Tech stumbled out of the gates allowing Fresno State to build a 9-4 lead. However, the Techsters fought back and closed the gap to three points behind Jones' first kill of the night, moving the score to 13-10 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Fresno responded by building a five point lead at 17-12 before Tech rallied and took the lead at 20-19. Unfortunately the first set rally stalled as the Bulldogs overtook the Techsters 25-22.
The second set began heavily contested as both teams' traded mini scoring runs. With the score knotted at six points apiece, Fresno State took over and closed the set on a 19-11 scoring run to take control of the match heading into the break.
Out of the break the Techsters appeared to have found some momentum as they scored the first three points of the set. With Fresno State scoring the next four points to take the lead, both squads again traded points to even the score at 10 apiece. From that point on, the Bulldogs put together a 15-8 run and took the third set and the match.
Louisiana Tech returns to action next Thursday at 8 p.m. with a road match against Boise State.
