AUBURN - Freshman Meghan Knowles two-out triple in the bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the difference as Louisiana Tech downed Gardner-Webb 7-5 Friday morning at the War Eagle Classic hosted by Auburn.

With Tech trailing 5-4, Knowles tripled to right field, plating Amberly Waits and Kylie Bassett with the go-ahead runs as the Lady Techsters posted another come-from-behind victory.

Junior Meghan Krieg (6-4) picked up the win despite control issues, allowing five earned runs on five hits while walking a career-high nine batters. Krieg struck out nine batters in the game.

Tech (8-5) took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Bassett doubled down the left field line with one out. After Waits lined out to left field, Jessica Kirby singled to left field, scoring Bassett.

After Gardner-Webb took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning, LA Tech answered in the bottom of the fourth as Waits led the frame off with a solo home run over the centerfield wall to tie the game. Kirby then reached on an error and pinch runner Kallan Thompson moved to second on a single by Knowles.

After Amanda Parsonage walked to load the passes, third baseman Claire Gibson gave Tech a 3-2 lead hitting a sacrifice fly to left field.

GW (7-6) answered back in the top of the fifth inning as Christa Fullwood belted a three-run home run off Krieg as the Bulldogs retook the lead at 5-3. After the next two Gardner-Webb batters reached, Krieg struck out three straight batters to get out of the jam.

Tech began the bottom of the fifth inning as Kendra Harmon reached on an infield error and advanced to second on a single by Bassett. Waits then followed with a run-scoring single to centerfield to make the score 5-4.

Two outs later, Knowles came through in the clutch with her first career triple giving Tech a 6-5 lead. Knowles would then score on a illegal pitch as the advantage increased to 7-5.

Krieg walked three batters over the final two innings but didn't surrender a hit as Tech won its fourth straight game.

Waits (2 hits, 1 HR, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Knowles (2 hits, 1 triple, 2 RBI, 1 run) and Bassett (2 hits, 2 runs) led Tech offensively.
