Bulldogs eye fourth CUSA series win

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech softball will host Sam Houston this weekend at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field in a three-game Conference USA series, beginning Friday at 6:00 p.m. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.

Series History: LA Tech leads, 21-15
 
The Bulldogs and Bearkats have met 36 times, with LA Tech holding a 21-15 lead in the all-time series. Sam Houston won two of three in last year's meeting in Huntsville. The Bulldogs are 6-4 against the Bearkats over the last 10 matchups.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH
 
LA Tech moved to 22-21 (8-10 CUSA) after dropping two of three to FIU at home last weekend. The Bulldogs outhit the Panthers 29-27 in the series and recorded 10 or more hits in both Friday's loss (10) and Saturday's win (11).
 
Allie Furr and Gracie Flores led the Bulldogs with five hits apiece in the three-game series. Jina Baffuto and Reagan Marchant added four hits each, while Marchant led the team with six RBI. All four of Marchant's hits were solo home runs, including two on Saturday and two more on Sunday.
 
Furr leads the team with 52 hits, while Elena Heng sits two behind with 50. Marchant became the first Bulldog to surpass 40 RBI this season and leads the team with 41, followed by freshman Bradi Gallaway with 38. Gallaway added two RBI on three hits against FIU and hit a solo home run on Saturday to give her 10 on the season, which is second on the team and tied for the most by a freshman in program history.
 
Flores has made eight straight starts at third in her last nine games and has a nine-game hit streak. The redshirt sophomore has registered 15 of her 23 hits this season over the last nine games, while batting .500 in that span.  
 
Laney Johnson moved to 6-3 after earning the win in the circle against FIU on Saturday. The sophomore worked 4.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. Bryannah Campos worked the final three frames to record her second save of the season, allowing no runs or hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
 
Johnson ranks second on the team in wins (6) and innings pitched (72.2), trailing Allie Floyd, who is 9-13 in 122 innings. Floyd leads the team with 90 strikeouts, while Campos ranks second with 35. Campos is 5-3 with a 3.86 ERA in 58 innings of work.
 
ABOUT SAM HOUSTON
 
Sam Houston enters this weekend's series with a 27-19 (11-7 CUSA) record. The Bearkats have earned CUSA series wins over UTEP (2-1), NMSU (2-1), Kennesaw State (2-1), MTSU (3-0) and Missouri State (2-1). Sam was swept by WKU in their only CUSA series loss.
 
The Bearkats are batting .291 as a team with 337 hits to their opponents 324. Sam has scored 237 runs while allowing 197. The Bearkats have a 4.08 staff ERA while opposing teams are batting .274 against them.
 
Sophia Lundstrom leads the team with a .406 batting average, 63 hits and 40 runs. Veronica Harrison ranks third with 44 hits second with a .358 average, while pacing the Bearkats in home runs (15) and RBI (41). Harrison's 15 homers are tied for the CUSA lead with Marchant.
 
Tiffany Sanchez leads Sam Houston with a 10-6 record in the circle across a team-high 86.2 innings. Sanchez has fanned 85. Kendall Daniel is 8-5 in 75.1 innings. Daniel ranks second with 47 strikeouts, while Amy Abke is 5-2 with 33 strikeouts across 42.1 innings.
