RUSTON--The Lousiana Tech tennis team hosted their first ever Western Athletic Conference match Thursday at the Lady Techster Tennis Complex, but were unable to come up with a win as the Techsters fell to Hawaii 5-2.
"I was very happy with the effort the girls put in today," Tech head coach Quintin Yray said. "Vivian (ten Dolle) knocked off their number one which was a huge win for her while Laura (Rodriguez) stayed consistent as usual for us. Really I liked what I saw from the entire team today."
The Techsters started out the match in a 1-0 hole after dropping the doubles point. However, the team did not get frustrated and continued to play hard. True freshman Vivian ten Dolle has been slated in the number one slot all year and showed why Thursday as she defeated Hawaii's number one 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Tech's Laura Rodriguez played in the number six position and topped Hawaii's Allison Gobel 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7).
Despite the tough play by the Lady Techster team the Rainbow Wahine were still able to leave Ruston with a 5-2 win.
"As I have been saying all year, this team is on right path," said Yray. "Nobody gave up today."
Louisiana Tech will now prepare to play Boise State Friday at 11 a.m. CT followed by San Jose State at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Lady Techster Tennis Complex in Ruston.
