FRESNO - Freshman pitcher Janna Frandrup recorded her best performance of the year and earned a historic win as Louisiana Tech defeated Fresno State 3-1 in the final game of a three-game series at Bulldog Diamond.

The win marked the first time LA Tech has ever defeated the Bulldogs in Fresno in 14 tries. The victory also gave the Lady Techsters a winning record in WAC play for the second straight year as LA Tech ends the regular season 26-19, 11-10 in league action.

Fresno State won the first game of the Saturday doubleheader 4-0 behind a dominating performance by Michelle Moses, who struck out 18 batters in the game.

In the second game of the day, Frandrup (3-1) allowed only one run while scattering seven hits over 7.0 innings as the Lady Techsters recorded the 3-1 win.

Tech got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning as Kendra Harmon led off with a single and advanced to third on a double by Kylie Bassett. After Fresno State pitcher Mackenzie Oakes retired Amberly Waits and Valerie Quiroga, freshman Meghan Knowles came through in the clutch singling to right field and giving the lady Techsters a 2-0 lead.

Fresno State threatened to score in the bottom of the second inning as Caitlin Stiglich singled with one out. Nichole Angene then lined a double that one-hoped the left field wall but Tech freshman outfielder Kallan Thompson threw a strike to third base to retire Stiglich for the second out of the inning. Frandrup then struck out Brooke Phipps looking to end the threat.

Tech threatened to add to its lead in the third inning. With runners on first and second and one out, Valerie Quiroga singled to right field but Bassett was thrown out at home trying to score. Knowles then grounded out to end the frame.

Fresno State came up big defensively again in the fifth inning as Christina Gamboa, who singled and stole second, was thrown out at home by outfielder Andrea Ortega trying to score on a Waits single.

Tech finally added to its lead in the sixth as Quiroga singled, Molly Goza reached on an error and Heather Doiron singled to load the bases with one out. Amanda Parsonage, pinch running for Quiroga, then scored on a wild pitch by Oakes making the score 3-0.

Thompson then just missed a two-run double down the left field line on a ball that was less than six inches foul before Oakes finally retired Thompson to end the frame.

Fresno State finally scored in the bottom of the sixth off of Frandrup as Haley Gilleland singled and advanced to second on a fly out by Moses. Courtney Moore then drove Gilleland home with a two-out single, cutting the Tech lead to 3-1.

Frandrup then retired Stiglich on a fly out to end the sixth.

Fresno State put the tying run at the plate with one out in the bottom of the seventh after a bunt single by Phipps. However, Frandrup then retired Alexis Lujan on a fly ball and induced a ground ball out by Diane Runge to end the game.

Bassett, Waits and Quiroga each recorded two hits in the win as Tech outhit Fresno State 10-7 in the win.

In the first game of the day, Tech freshman Michelle Jones pitched a solid game allowing four earned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out three.

However, the Tech offense was shut down by Moses, who set a WAC and Fresno State record by striking out the first 13 batters of the game. Moses ended with 18 strikeouts while allowing only two hits and two walks in the game.

One of Jones' few mistakes in the game came with one-out in the bottom of the fourth in a scoreless game. After Moses singled, Moore blasted a two-run home run over the right centerfield fence giving Fresno State a 2-0 lead.

Knowles finally stopped Moses' strikeout streak with a line drive single off third baseman Nicole Angene's glove. Frandrup then walked to put runners on first and second. With two outs, Sarah Offutt pulled a pitch deep down the left field line that Ortega snared in the corner for the final out of the frame.

The Bulldogs added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Tech put runners on first and second in the top of the sixth inning as Bassett walked and Waits singled, but Moses recorded another strike out to end the threat.

The Lady Techsters finished fourth in the WAC regular season standings and will face fifth-seed San Jose State in the first round of the WAC Tournament Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. CT in Las Cruces.
