Louisiana Tech Practices Friday Evening, Dykes Names Team Captains

Aug. 27, 2010

Quotes | Season and Individual Tickets Now on Sale!

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech worked out for over two hours in shells Friday night as fall camp began to wind down and the team continued preparations for its first game of the 2010 football season.

Fall camp is winding down for the Bulldogs and the team has one practice left in camp - Saturday's practice which is closed to the public and the media. The team fully gets into game preparation week starting with Monday's closed practice.

As the team enters the season, practices on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays will be closed to the public and the media while Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be open.

Friday's practice saw the team battling through a few lulls as the team is finishing its third full week of camp.

"We had another good night," said head coach Sonny Dykes. "We had a couple of lulls but we were able to pick it up and get going again. I really liked the effort we saw across the board tonight. Our punting game was really good tonight. Ryan Allen has a little bit of a tweak and sat out tonight but Stuart Scurria punted great and Cade Glasgow punted great. I was really pleased with both of those guys picking up where Ryan's left off."

With a few players out Friday, other players got a chance to get more reps and were able to step up and play at a high level.

"Steven Ensminger was sick today so he didn't make it to practice but he should be back tomorrow and it shouldn't be an issue," Dykes explained. "That gave a lot of reps for Ross and Colby and both of those guys played great tonight. The thing that great teams have to do is if somebody's down, someone else has to step up their game and play at a high level. The good thing is I think that competition has been good to us for that. If somebody goes down, we have someone waiting to step up and take their place."

TEAM CAPTAINS

Dykes announced the team's captains for the 2010 season with four permanent captains: Rob McGill, Josh Victorian, Adrien Cole and Tank Calais. The four were chosen by a vote of the team.

"I think it is a great honor," said Dykes. "Adrien Cole, Tank Calais, Rob McGill and Josh Victorian are our four permanent captains. When your teammates vote for you, it's a huge honor. It shows that they have respect for you and the team respects the work they have put in and their leadership. I feel good about all four of those captains. I think they are guys that are going to work well together and lead our football team. We're certainly going to rely on their leadership and effort this year."

In addition, five other players receiving a high number of votes were named rotating captains with each serving the week of a specific game: Myke Compton, Ross Jenkins, Roosevelt Falls, Jay Dudley and Phillip Livas.

"We also have five game-to-game captains that we will rotate though," explained Dykes. "Myke Compton will be Week One, Ross Jenkins in will be Week Two, Roosevelt Falls will be Week Three, Jay Dudley will be Week Four and Phillip Livas will be Week Five. Those guys will help represent us at the coin flip and it is a great honor for them."

All announced captains were decided upon by a vote of the team.

"I've always thought it was important to have your team captains established as the season starts," Dykes said. "We wanted to honor the guys that had a lot of votes as well. I feel good about all of them and I think it's going to be good to have four permanent ones and rotate ones from week-to-week. We'll also have some coaches' choices as well mixed in there. I think their leadership is going to be real important to the development of our football team."
