RUSTON - Louisiana Tech will host the 12-team Squire Creek Invitational today and tomorrow as the Bulldogs look to continue their impressive start to the 2010 fall season which has seen the team record a pair of top four finishes.
Head coach Jeff Parks team finished tied for fourth in the 15-team Sam Hall Intercollegiate hosted by Southern Miss in the first event of the year and then topped that performance with a third place finish at the 18-team UTA/Waterchase Invitational the following week.
By virtue of those two impressive showings, Tech earned the program's highest recorded ranking ever last week when it was ranked 57th by Golfstat.com.
The Bulldogs will be one of the top teams featured in their own tournament as the event will also feature Top 100 teams in Southeastern Louisiana (63rd), UMKC (69th), Sam Houston State (92nd) and Southern Mississippi (94th). Other teams participating in the 54-hole event are Arkansas State, Houston Baptist, Jacksonville State, McNeese State, Nicholls State, Rice and Troy.
The tournament will begin Monday morning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start as the competitors will play 36 holes on the first day followed by 18 holes on Tuesday's final day. The Bulldogs finished tied for sixth at last year's 16-team event while New Orleans won the team competition and Southeastern Louisiana's Cedric Scotto won the individual competition.
Squire Creek features an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Tom Fazio. The course has twice been ranked as number one in the state of Louisiana, and was ranked as one of the top 10 best new courses in America by Golf Digest.
Fans are encouraged to attend the event but are reminded to dress appropriately.
Tech will host its College Am on Sunday, Oct. 3 starting at 1:30 p.m. The four-man scramble cost $200 per player as teams will be paired up with college players from the participating teams. Anyone interested in playing interested individuals can contact Parks at 245-8211.
