Oct. 2, 2011

Final Stats

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Louisiana Tech doubles team of junior Vivian ten Dolle (Gelderland, Netherlands) and sophomore Melanie Urvoy (Aulnay-sous-Bois, France) won the doubles Flight "B" at the SFA Fall Invite that took place Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

"I was pleased with how the team performed as a whole against some very tough competition with players from LSU, SMU, TCU and others," said head coach Quintin Yray.

Ten Dolle and Urvoy defeated Louisiana Monroe's Letha Gaigher and Vivian Polak in the first round 9-7. The duo easily handled LSU's Hayley Everett and Paige Bahnsen in the semifinals 8-0 and then beat Tatyana Postnikova and Kayla Stevenson of Sam Houston State to take the title.

The team of senior Maartje de Wit (Velp, Netherlands) and junior Alena Erofeyeva (Yekaterinburg, Russia) were also slotted in doubles Flight "B," finishing with a record of 1-2.

In Flight "A" of the doubles competition, senior Anna Zurek (Radom, Poland) and freshman Laura Fernandez (Madrid, Spain) finished sixth with a 1-2 record.

Zurek was the top singles finisher for the Lady Techsters with a fourth place finish in Flight "C." In the first round, she came back from losing the first set to defeat Nadia Dubyanskaya of SHSU 2-6, 6-3, 10-8. Zurek then fell to ULM's Vivian Polak, who won the flight, 6-0, 6-2 and the Bearkats' Stevenson in the third place match 6-3, 6-4.

Singles Flight "D" saw doubles teammates de Wit and Erofeyeva in the fifth place match with Erofeyeva taking the match 6-4, 6-1. Erofeyeva finished the tournament 2-1 while de Wit had a 1-2 record.

Fernandez was placed in Flight "A" to be given a glimpse of the competition that she will be facing the Western Athletic Conference play. While she dropped all three of her matches, Yray was pleased with what he saw from her.

"Laura is a very tough competitor and rarely loses focus or composure," Yray said. "She is going to be a huge asset to our team."

Tech continues their fall schedule Oct. 7-9 at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Invitational.
