Tech Golf Signs English Prepster

Nov. 15, 2011

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech head coach Jeff Parks announced Tuesday that he has signed Ben Robinson (Droitwich, England) to a national letter of intent to play for the Bulldogs starting next year.

Robinson comes from a family of golfers as his father, Jeremy Robinson, played on the European Tour for more than 15 years. Both his father and his grandfather competed in the prestigious Walker Cup - an event contested biennially between teams comprised of the top amateur golfers in the United States and Great Britain and Ireland.

"I am excited to be adding Ben to our team," Parks said. "He is very dedicated to pursuing his dream of playing professionally which is proven by his willingness to travel thousands of miles away from home to play college golf. He is a very personable young man that will be a great teammate and a wonderful representative of our program at Louisiana Tech. He has represented England in numerous events and is an accomplished player. I know he will be an asset to our program."

Robinson, who attends Stowe School in Buckinghamshire, England, ranks second in his age group in the Faldo Series World Final in Northern Ireland. He recently won the UK Faldo Series Championship (Holinwell), eagling the sixth playoff hole to qualify for the final. He is also a member of English Golf Union Midland Regional Squad and the Worcestershire Men's Squad.

"I wanted to come to a university that has great facilities and a place where I felt I could improve and compete in top level tournaments to progress with my golf," Robinson said. "I feel that Louisiana Tech's golf program meets and exceeds what I was looking for and Squire Creek looks like a great place to play and practice. I can't wait to get started next year."

Robinson finished the year ranked 40th on the English Golf Union Junior OOM (ranked fifth among the those 16 and under) while also recording two top 25 finishes in the Royal and Ancient Golf Club World Golf Amateur ranking events (Welsh Open Youths and Midland Open Amateur).
