LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Sophomore Vivian ten Dolle provided Louisiana Tech's only score of the day as the Lady Techster tennis team was defeated by New Mexico State 6-1 Saturday in Las Cruces.
Ten Dolle dropped her first set to Manon Sylvain 6-1 in No. 2 singles before winning the next two sets by the same score, 6-1, 6-1. Ten Dolle improved to 10-2 on the season.
The No. 6 singles match also went three sets with Tech's Alena Erofeyeva winning the first set 7-6 and NMSU's Ros-Polly Nguyen winning the second set 7-5. The third set was played out in a super tiebreaker which Nguyen won 10-3.
Tech's No. 1 singles player, Elne Barnard, was defeated by Isabela Kulaif 6-4, 6-2. In No. 3 singles, Ginet Pinero defeated Melanie Urvoy (Tech) 6-2, 6-1 while Natalia Salum beat Maartje de Wit (Tech) 6-0, 6-1 in No. 4 singles.
Tech's Anna Zurek lost to Anemieke Witte 7-6, 6-2 in No. 5 singles.
The doubles point could have gone either way as all three matches were tightly contested. Tech's No. 1 duo of Barnard and Zurek defeated Sylvain and Jodie Williams 8-6. However, the Aggies won the other two matches to capture the doubles point. Pinero and Witte defeated ten Dolle and de Wit 8-4 in No. 2 singles and Salum and Nguyen defeated Urvoy and Erofeyeva 8-6 in No. 3 singles.
The Lady Techsters fell to 11-7 overall and 0-4 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Aggies improved to 10-7 overall and 2-3 in the WAC.
Louisiana Tech will wrap up the regular season at home against Nevada on Saturday at 2 p.m.
