April 23, 2011

Complete Results

RUSTON - With a 7-0 loss to Nevada on Saturday, the Louisiana Tech women's tennis team finished its regular season 11-8 overall and 0-5 in Western Athletic Conference play.

The Wolfpack won their sixth-straight match and improved to 11-9 overall, 5-1 in the WAC. Depending on the outcome of the Boise State and Hawai'i match on Sunday, Nevada could secure the No. 2 seed for the WAC Championships held April 28-30 in Boise, Idaho. Since not every team in the conference plays each other, Louisiana Tech is currently tied with fellow winless teams San Jose State (0-3) and Utah State (0-5) for seventh place in the WAC.

Fresno State (5-0) is the only undefeated team in the conference and will be the No. 1 seed. A full bracket of the WAC Championships will be released on Monday.

Louisiana Tech recorded just one match win on Saturday. That came in No. 1 doubles as Tech's top two singles players this season, Elne Barnard and Vivian ten Dolle teamed up for the first time all year to defeat Emma Verberne and Lais Ogata 8-7 (1). Nevada won the No. 2 and No. 3 matches to capture the doubles point.

That wasn't the only change in lineups as head coach Quintin Yray altered the singles lineup as well.

Ever since ten Dolle became eligible to play earlier this season, she as played No. 2 singles for the Lady Techsters. On Saturday, ten Dolle played No. 3 singles and Melanie Urvoy played in the No. 2 position. Urvoy was defeated 6-0, 6-2 and ten Dolle lost 6-2, 6-2.

In No. 1 singles, Barnard lost the first set 6-1 to Florence De Vrye and played a very competitive second set, but lost 7-5.

Maartje de Wit (No. 4) Anna Zurek (No. 5) and Alena Erofeyeve (No. 6) each suffered straight set defeats.
