RUSTON - Olu Ashaolu and DeAndre Brown were represented on the all-Louisiana men's basketball team announced Saturday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
A native of Toronto, Canada, Ashaolu was named to the first team after finishing the season ranked second in the Western Athletic Conference with 14.2 points per game and second with 9.4 rebounds per game. In WAC games only, the junior forward ranked fifth with 12.9 points per game and second with 9.4 rebounds per game.
Ashaolu finished 19th in the nation with 16 double-doubles and 38th in rebounds.
By finishing the season with at least 9.0 rebounds per game, Ashaolu became the first Bulldog to do so since Paul Millsap finished the 2005-06 season with an average of 13.3 rebounds per game.
Brown, a senior guard, was named to the third team by the LSWA after averaging 15.8 points per game, the third best mark in the WAC.
It is the Fort Worth, Texas native's first LSWA award while Ashaolu was named to the honorable mention team last season.
Joining Ashaolu on the first team is Kendall Timmons (Tulane), Pat Richard (McNeese State), Ryan Brock (Loyola) and Louisiana Player of the Year Anatoly Bose (Nicholls State).
LSU-Shreveport's Eric Young was named the state's newcomer of the year while JJ Thomas of Louisiana-Lafayette was named freshman of the year. Louisiana Tech alum Dave Simmons of McNeese State was named coach of the year after leading the Cowboys to a 21-11 record.
