Gaskins to Enroll at LA Tech; File Waiver with NCAA

June 15, 2011

RUSTON, La. - Former Ole Miss guard Trevor Gaskins has announced his decision to further his education as he will enroll at Louisiana Tech this fall to pursue his master's degree.

The 6-foot-2-inch Gaskins has already earned his bachelor's degree from Ole Miss and Louisiana Tech will file a waiver with the NCAA requesting permission for him to play this year for head coach Michael White and the Bulldog basketball team.

"I'm looking forward to all the opportunities LA Tech is offering me," Gaskins said. "First, being able to get my master's and furthering my education. Second, (possibly) getting a chance to play basketball for one more year for Coach White."

After averaging 21 points and eight assists his senior year at Chattahoochee High School in Georgia, Gaskins signed with Ole Miss where he earned Southeastern Conference all-Freshman Team honors while playing in all 35 games.

Gaskins then missed his sophomore season after suffering a knee injury in preseason camp before returning in 2009-10 to play in all 35 games while ranking fourth on the team with 27 three-pointers made.

Last season he started the first 10 games of the year averaging more than 11 points per contest before injuring his hamstring against Colorado State. After missing the next three games, he returned but came off the bench the rest of the season.

"Trevor would bring us extreme toughness and energy, as well as an immediate scoring punch," White said. "He would provide much needed experience and familiarity with our system. Trevor is also excited about the possibility of helping groom our young guards."

Gaskins scored a career-high 24 points last year against NCAA Tournament participant Penn State while also adding 21 points, 4 assists and 3 steals against Texas State.

He is the fifth player that White has added since he was named the Bulldog head coach in late March, joining guard Raheem Appleby, guard Kenneth Smith, forward Isaiah Massey and forward Michale Kyser. They will join guard Alex Carr who signed during the early period in November.
