Hadnot Qualifies for Finals at Pan Am Jr. Championships

MIRAMAR, Fla. - Louisiana Tech sprinter Trey Hadnot continued his all-star freshman year Saturday by advancing to the finals of the 200m as he competed for the United States at the Pan Am Junior Championships in the Miami suburb of Miaramar.

Hadnot ran 21.03 in the first heat of the prelims to win the heat and advance to the finals Saturday evening. He finished third overall with Grenada's Kirani James finishing first with a time of 20.62 and American Sean McLean running 20.98 to finish second. McLean was the North Carolina high school state champion this year.

Qualifying for the 200m dash was 18 sprinters under the age of 20 from across North and South America representing countries from Canada to Brazil. Hadnot is one of eight to advance to the finals along with runners from the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico, Grenada and St. Kitts and Nevis.

Saturday's finals are set for 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT.

Hadnot was named to the American team after running a personal record time of 20.80 at the USA Track and Field Junior Championships in Eugene, Ore. in June.
