RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech (6-6; 0-0 WAC) begins a four game road trip as they travel to Houston, Texas this weekend where they will face Southern Miss, Southeastern Louisiana and Houston Baptist in the Husky Classic at Sharp Gym.
The Lady Techsters will open the tournament against the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss at 11 a.m. on Friday followed by a 4 p.m. match against the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana. Tech will close the tournament Saturday night when they take on the host team, Houston Baptist at 7 p.m.
"This will be a challenging tournament this weekend for us. Southeastern Louisiana is always a tough and emotional match. Southern Miss does very well in Conference USA and Houston Baptist is having a great season against tough teams," said head coach Matt Sonnichsen.
The Lady Techsters are currently dealing with a few injuries that caused the team to rely heavily on newcomers against McNeese State. The same will hold true against the upcoming competition in the Husky Classic.
"We are battling some injuries now and will need some of our younger players to step up," said Sonnichsen. "With the younger squad that we have this season, we want to focus on getting better each week in preparation for the elite level of WAC volleyball."
Scouting the Opposition
Southern Miss
• Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss have met a combined six times. The two schools have split the all-time series, each winning three games.
• The last match between the two schools was on Sept. 5, 2009, when the Golden Eagles defeated the Lady Techsters, 3-0.
• Louisiana Tech is 25-49 all-time when facing Conference USA opponents.
Southeastern Louisiana
• Friday's match will be the third match between the two schools this season with Louisiana Tech holding a 2-0 record against the Lions.
• The Lady Techsters hold a 9-1 all-time record against the Lions. The last match between the two schools ended in a 3-1 Tech win on Sept. 9, 2011.
Houston Baptist
• Tech and Houston Baptist have met only twice since the programs start in 1987. The Lady Techsters are 1-1 in the all-time series.
• The last time the two teams met was on Oct. 30, 2010 when Houston Baptist defeated Tech, 3-1.
• Louisiana Tech is 16-4 all-time against Great West Conference opposition.
