Tech Blasts Past Prairie View A&M

Sept. 23, 2011

Final Stats

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - In the final non-conference road game of the year, sophomore Taylor Dennis (Albuquerque, N.M.) scored two goals to lead the Louisiana Tech soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Prairie View A&M Friday night at Lady Panther Field. The four goals are the most in a game since scoring seven against LSU-Shreveport back on Aug. 23.

The win improves the Lady Techsters' record to 6-2-4 on the year while the Panthers remain winless at 0-10-0.

In the 23rd minute senior Scotti Culton (Waterloo, Ill.) struck for the first goal of the night, her second of the season, off a pass from senior Brittany Coffinbargar (Springfield, Ill.).

Tech was awarded a penalty kick after a foul was called on a Prairie View player inside the goal box that sophomore Paige Dunn (Forney, Texas) put in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead in the 25th minute, which was also her first goal of 2011.

Dennis scored her first goal of the game late in the 48th minute on an assist from freshman Brianna Caldwell (Rowlett, Texas), who was seeing her first action of the season. In the 70th minute, Dennis scored again with an assist credited to freshman Natalie Kelly (Waxahachie, Texas).

The two goals gave Dennis three for the season and tying her with senior Olivia Lukasewich (Woodbridge, Ontario) and freshman Abby Sentz (Kingwood, Texas) for the most on the squad.

"It was a relief to finally score," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "The team is doing everything they can to overcome the misfortune of not having a healthy recognizable striker."

Getting her first start in goal this year was senior Cat Buchanan (Shawnee, Kan.), stopping two shots which both occurred in the first half.

The shutout was the Lady Techsters' ninth of the year and are two away from breaking the team's record for most in a season.

LA Tech outshot the Panthers 24-3 and placed a season-high 19 on them on goal.

"It was a tough game, make no mistake," Sherry said. "Prairie View is a very skillful and athletic team."

Prairie View was led offensively by Yosselyn Aguilar, taking two of the team's three shots. Biance Garza started in goal and added to her nation leading saves total by stopping 15 shots.

The Lady Techsters return home Sunday to face Southeastern Louisiana at 2 p.m. at Lady Techster Soccer Complex. Admission to the game is free and live stats will be available to fans that are not able to make it to the game. LA Tech All-Access members can view a live video stream of the contest with commentary by Malcolm Butler and Jill Harper.
