JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Senior Olivia Lukasewich (Woodbridge, Ontario) scored the lone goal of the game to give the Louisiana Tech soccer team a 1-0 victory at the adidas Gamecock Soccer Classic over Jacksonville State on a wet and breezy Sunday afternoon.

"We had to work hard to get the win against a very aggressive JSU team," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "With our lack of strikers available it is important that we are tight defensively."

The Lady Techsters improve their overall record on the year to 4-1-2. The Gamecocks remain winless in 2011 with a 0-6-0 record.

In the 33rd minute Lukasewich beat the goalkeeper to the ball from junior Mo Rockwell (Salt Lake City, Utah) to give Tech a 1-0 lead. The goal was Lukasewich's third of the year and Rockwell was credited with her second assist of the season.

"Olivia scored a great opportunist goal," Sherry said. "She ran onto a through ball and just got there before the keeper to slide the ball home."

Sophomore Caitlin Updyke (Broomfield, Colo.) was credited with five saves in the win, the 18th of her career. The victory moved her past teammate senior Cat Buchanan (Shawnee, Kan.) for the most in program history.

The shutout was Updyke's fifth of the season and 12th of her career, tying her with Buchanan atop the school's career list.

The Lady Techsters outshot JSU 12-10 with junior Finola Corley (Telford, England) leading Tech with three shots, all of them on goal. Senior Scotti Culton (Waterloo, Ill.), sophomore Taylor Dennis (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Lukasewich all took two shots apiece.

For JSU, Kaitlin Manns and Jackie Rush took three shots each to pace the team with Manns putting two of her attempts on goal. Katelyn Geddings stopped five shots in goal with the team credited with one save.

Senior Amy Quintana (Wheaton, Ill.), freshman Abby Sentz (Kingwood, Texas) and Lukasewich were all named to the adidas Gamecock Soccer Classic all-tournament team.
