RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech defeated in-state foe McNeese State 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Lady Techster Tennis Complex.
"I am happy the team won the match," said head coach Quinton Yray. "We have started to figure out our double teams and other players have changed their games and been working to progress."
The win improves the Lady Techsters to 2-1 on the season while the Cowgirls fall to 0-2.
Seniors Elne Barnard and Anna Zurek won the No. 1 doubles match 8-1 while the team of junior Vivian ten Dolle and sophomore Melanie Urvoy picked up another 8-1 victory at No. 2 to give Tech the doubles point.
In singles action, ten Dolle easily handled McNeese's Lara Pujol at the No. 2 slot (6-1, 6-0). Barnard remained undefeated in dual matches this season with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Anastasia Surkova.
Freshman Maria Coronel clinched the match for the Lady Techsters with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
At the No. 6 slot, junior Alena Erofeyeva picked up the Lady Techsters' fifth point (6-2, 3-6, 6-2) over Marcella Castaldi of the Cowgirls.
Louisiana Tech returns to action Feb. 10 as they host Grambling State in a match that was postponed because of rain earlier this year.
