JACKSON, Miss. - Louisiana Tech's tennis team picked up their third-straight victory Saturday with a 7-0 win over Jackson State at the JSU Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Lady Techsters are now 3-1 on the year while the Lady Tigers fall to 0-1.
JSU had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles as they only fielded five players for the match to give Tech a 1-0 advantage before play had begun. The team of senior Maartje de Wit and junior Vivian ten Dolle clinched the doubles point for the Lady Techsters with an 8-6 victory over Kesica Jayaoalan and Angela Condorelli in the No.2 match.
The Lady Tigers picked up a their only win of the competition at the No. 1 doubles position as the team of Karen Martinez and Harshini Reddy downed seniors Elne Barnard and Anna Zurek 8-5.
In singles action, freshman Laura Fernandez picked up her first victory of the season at the No. 1 position (6-0, 3-6, 6-3) over Martinez. Ten Dolle continues to dominate at the No.2 spot (6-0, 6-0) over Reddy as ten Dolle has only lost a point in her past six sets.
Junior Alena Erofeyeva and Barnard both remained undefeated on the season with victories at the No. 5 (6-0, 6-2) and No. 3 (6-1, 6-3) spots, respectively.
The No. 4 singles match ended the day with freshman Maria Coronel picking up a three-set victory over Condorelli. After splitting the first two sets, Coronel won a marathon third set 11-9 to complete the sweep for Tech.
Louisiana Tech plays at Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday at 2 p.m. in the first of three matches in three days for the Lady Techsters.
