Louisiana Tech vs. SEMO Nov. 19, 2012 Post-game Quotes
HEAD COACH Michael White
Opening statement on the win:
"It feels good to grind one out when you didn't necessarily play great, but the part of us not playing great had a lot to do with SEMO. They present a lot of problems defensively with the athleticism they have on the wing, with their talent level at the four and five. They are very hard to guard. Defensively I thought they did a really good job of changing defenses. Their matchup zone is pretty good and confused us at times. We settled in and hit a couple of late shots to secure a victory."
On responding once SEMO cut it to one possession in second half:
"I thought we stymied a couple of runs with timely shots. I remember Cordarius [Johnson] hitting the big three. Speedy Smith, he hit a huge three for us. It is nice to see guys, especially veteran guys even though they are only sophomores and juniors, step up and put us on their back and make big shots for us."
On holding SEMO scoreless for five and a half minutes out of the second half just like Troy:
"I thought we let up a little bit defensively in the last 10 minutes [of the first half] when we got a six or eight-point lead, but the first five minutes out of the gate in the second half was really impressive like last night. I credit that a lot to the pressure of our guards and the protection of the middle by Mr. Kyser. Michale was tremendous blocking shots at the rim tonight. Brandon [Gibson], Cordarius [Johnson], Jaron Johnson and Chris Anderson, they were all throwing their bodies around as well to help us defensive rebound in the paint."
On the third game in three days:
"Hopefully we have enough gas in the tank. Our hands will be full with a young, but talented Chattanooga team. We play on their home floor, but it is an opportunity for us to win a championship and to simulate a WAC championship. It is our ultimate goal to win a championship in March and to win three in three days has definitely been the temporary goal as of the last couple of weeks. This is what we have been striving for. We will be ready. We will be focused. Tomorrow is going to be fun."
