Appleby Named CollegeSportsMadness.com WAC Freshman of the Year

March 5, 2012

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech freshman guard Raheem Appleby was named the CollegeSportsMadness.com Western Athletic Conference men's basketball Freshman of the Year on Monday.

The Jacksonville, Ark. native averaged 13.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game during the regular season.

Appleby's best game of the year came at New Mexico State on Feb. 4 when he scored 30 points on 10-of-19 shooting including 4-for-9 on three-point attempts while playing the entire 40 minutes.

This is the second time Appleby has been honored by CollegeSportsMadness.com this season as they named him their WAC Player of the Week on Jan. 23 after his performances in wins at Hawaii and San Jose state.

Louisiana Tech enters the WAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed after finishing in a tie for fifth with Hawaii. The Bulldogs will take on Utah Sate Thursday night at approximately 10:30 p.m. CT in the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
