Tech Soccer Nets Third Straight Win

Aug. 26, 2012

Box Score

CONWAY, Ark. - Louisiana Tech only had one shot on goal in the first period, but that was all they needed as it found the back of the net off the foot of forward Rosie Lethbridge to defeat Central Arkansas 1-0.

The lone goal of the day in the 17th minute was Lethbridge's second of the year and came on a lead pass first from Mo Rockwell, then to Laura LeFevour who broke down right and passed across the goal for Rosie to tap it into an open net. The combo-assist from LeFevour was her third on the early season and Rockwell's first.

This tough, first road victory pushes the Techsters overall record to 3-0-0 on the year and drops the Bears to 3-1-0.

"We will take [the win] but it was not pretty," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "It was not as smooth and efficient as Friday's match but the ladies dug deep and got through it. Central Arkansas deserves a lot of credit for the way they battled all game."

The sluggishness resulted in only two shots for Tech in the first period, but the intensity picked up in the second thanks in large part to forward Emily Brennan as the offense was able to get off seven shots.

As the Techsters were seizing momentum, an aggressive UCA Bears front line suddenly reeled off a barrage of shots in an attempt to tie it up in the final 15 minutes.

Tech goalkeeper Caitlin Updyke came up big in net with nine saves in the shutout, her second of the season and 17th of her career.

This was the first of a four game road swing with Louisiana College as the next opponent. The makeup game for the Murray State cancellation is schedule to kickoff this Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Pineville, La.

"This game at Louisiana College will be an opportunity for our bench players to show what they have to offer and stake a claim for more minutes," said Sherry.
