Lamar Invitational
RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech volleyball team (0-3, 0-0 WAC) will hit the road Friday and Saturday to compete in the Lamar Invitational in Beaumont, Texas in search of its first win of the 2012 campaign.
The Lady Techsters will play in their second road tournament of the season as they take on the host team, Lamar, along with South Carolina State and in-state foe Tulane over the course of the weekend tournament.
Tech is coming off an opening weekend performance that saw the team drop its first three matches of 2012 to three tough opponents in Central Arkansas, South Alabama and future Conference USA opponent Southern Miss.
"Our team is eager to play these next three matches and the players have worked hard during the week to improve their game," head coach Adriano de Souza said. "These next three opponents will put our team to the test. Good competition will only help us to learn more and improve our game performance."
Tech is led by sophomore setter Maria Coelho, who has notched 82 assists in three matches this season. Junior middle blocker Caitlin Germany has also put up 13 total blocks in three matches played, while sophomore outside hitter Bridget Benditz has 18 kills on the season.
The Techsters will play the host team, the Lamar Cardinals, at 10:30 a.m., Friday before continuing play with a match against the Tulane Green Wave at 7:30 p.m. The team will conclude the tournament Saturday against South Carolina State at 3 p.m.
The match against Tulane was previously scheduled for Friday at 4:30 p.m., but has since been moved to 7:30 p.m. that day to accommodate the Green Wave in the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac in New Orleans and surrounding areas.
