Bulldogs Take Down Boll Weevils in First Exhibition

Oct. 30, 2013

Final Stats

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech had four players score in double figures to go along with Michale Kyser's seven blocks, as the Bulldogs took down Arkansas-Monticello 85-64 on Wednesday night in an exhibition game played in Scotty Robertson Memorial Gym.

The Bulldogs used an 11-3 run to pull away from the Boll Weevils midway through the first half, as LA Tech led 43-28 at the break and never looked back. Arkansas-Monticello cut the Bulldog lead to eight early on in the second half, but a 13-4 run increased the lead to 27 for Louisiana Tech.

"We have to continue to improve, that is why there is a preseason, and that is why we play exhibition games," head coach Michael White said. "I was a little discouraged with the way we executed offensively and the way that we shot the ball. I was discouraged with our defensive effort down the stretch in the second half. I thought (D'Audrio) Patton and (Brandon) Wilson were very good on the interior."

Louisiana Tech shot 8-28 (28.6 percent) from beyond on the arc in the contest, but defensively held the Boll Weevils to 1-5 from three point range.

LA Tech was led in scoring by Raheem Appleby who contributed 19 points. Also scoring in double digits for the Bulldogs was Alex Hamilton who scored 14, as well as Jaron Johnson and Cordarius Johnson who added 12 and 11 points respectively.

On the defensive end, LA Tech was led by Michale Kyser, who added seven blocks to the team total of 12. The Bulldogs forced 19 turnovers which included 10 steals, while only turning the ball over nine times.

Arkansas-Monticello was led in scoring by Wilson, who scored a team high 19 points. Also scoring in double digits for the Boll Weevils was Patton, who added 17 points.

Louisiana Tech's next action comes Monday, Nov. 4 against Southern Arkansas in a 6:30 p.m. tipoff in the Thomas Assembly Center.
