LAKE CHARLES, La. - Michelle Jones and Erin Kipp each recorded complete-game, two-hit shutouts as Louisiana Tech swept two games in the opening day of the 2013 Cowgirl Classic hosted by McNeese State.

Tech (3-3) will return to the field Saturday to face Southern at 2:30 p.m. and Houston Baptist at 5 p.m. For in-game Twitter updates, fans can follow @LATechSB.

LA Tech 2, McNeese State 0 (8 innings)

Louisiana Tech senior Michelle Jones tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout to lead the Lady Techsters to a 2-0 extra inning win over McNeese State in the first day of the Cowgirl Classic Friday.

Jones (2-0), who has allowed only one earned run in 25.2 innings of action this season, surrendered a pair of two-out singles in the bottom of the third before retiring the final 19 batters of the game for the victory. The Scurry, Texas native struck out seven batters without issuing a walk in the game.

Tech (2-3) went to extra innings for the third time in the first five games of the season. After falling in the first two extra innings games of the year, the Lady Techsters capitalized on aggressive base running and two throwing errors by the Cowgirls to plate two runs in the top of the eighth.

With the international tie-breaker rule in effect, freshman Anna Cross was placed on second base to start the top of the eighth. Cross recorded her second stolen base of the game - and fifth of the season - and ultimately scored when McNeese State catcher Ashley Modzelewski committed a throwing error on the play, giving Tech a 1-0 lead.

Senior second baseman Amanda Krueger and freshman Kristen Miles then recorded back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second with no outs. Alayna Kipp then reached on a fielder's choice as Krueger was thrown out at third. One out later, Miles stole third base and scored as Modzelewski again threw errantly as Tech took a 2-0 lead.

McNeese State (5-4), which played Top 10 UCLA to a one-run game last weekend, started the bottom of the eighth with a runner on second but Jones induced a pop up and fly out before striking out the final batter of the game.

Tech outhit McNeese State 6-2 as Krueger, Miles, Erin Kipp, Meghan Knowles, Dacia Hale and Cross each recorded singles in the game.

LA Tech 8, Alcorn State 0 (5 innings)

Junior Erin Kipp tossed five shutout innings and joined teammate Amanda Krueger with three RBI each to lead the Lady Techsters to an 8-0 win over Alcorn State in the second game of the day in Lake Charles.

Kipp (1-1) surrendered a pair of two-out hits in the bottom of the first inning before escaping the jam and retiring the final 13 batters of the game for the Lady Techsters.

Tech (3-3) scored a season-high eight runs on nine hits off two Lady Braves pitchers as the Lady Techsters plated runs in three of its five innings.

Krueger started the scoring in the top of the first inning, drawing a leadoff walk and advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kristen Miles. Alayna Kipp then gave Tech a 1-0 lead with an RBI double.

The Lady Techsters added three more runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. Anna Cross and Miles bookended a Krueger walk with singles to load the bases. After a ground ball double play erased two of the runners, Erin Kipp followed with a two-run single as Tech upped the advantage to 3-0.

Following a Janna Frandrup single that put runners on the corners, Tech executed a double steal as Erin Kipp raced home for the third and final run of the frame.

Any chance of an Alcorn State comeback was doused in the top of the fourth inning as Krueger hit a three-run home run, scoring Katelynn Cook and Cross. Miles singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third and then scored in front of Erin Kipp's RBI double.

Krueger (HR, 3 runs, 3 RBI), Miles (2 hits, 2 runs, SB), Alayna Kipp (1 hit, 1 RBI), Erin Kipp (2 hits, 1 run, 3 RBI, 2 SB), Frandrup (1 hit), Knowles (1 hit), Cook (1 run) and Cross (1 hit, 1 run, 1 SB) led Tech offensively in the win.
