Techsters Fall to Sugar Bears in Straight Sets

Box Score

Sept. 20, 2013

Final Stats

CONWAY, Ark. - Despite fighting through three tough sets, the Louisiana Tech Volleyball team fell to the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-18) straight-sets loss Friday night at the Prince Center in Conway.

Head coach Adriano de Souza and the Lady Techsters could not match the offensive fire power of the Sugar Bears and ended up dropping its fourth road match of the season.

"Our team put a lot of effort into the match tonight," de Souza said. "At times we were head to head with Central Arkansas and I am proud of our players and especially the way they served and blocked in the match. The match showed us that we have to keep working on our decision-making and adjust faster to the game."

As a team, LA Tech hit .106 compared to a .255 attaching percentage the Sugar Bears put together, but the Lady Techsters did out-block Central Arkansas with 10 total compared to seven for the home team.

Central Arkansas had two players reach double digits in the match as Jessica Nagy and Heather Schnars had 15 and 10 kills, respectively, to lead the Sugar Bears to victory on their home court.

For the Lady Techsters, Xzache Mathis continued to impress offensively as the junior outside hitter totaled 11 kills and two aces, while also recording eight digs and two blocks on the night. Mathis accounted for 14.0 LA Tech points for the match.

Alejandra Aviles led with 13 digs versus the Sugar Bears, while sophomore Dalane Guidry put together an impressive performance at the net with a total of six blocks on the night. Senior Caitlin Germany also recorded a season-high four blocks in the loss.

Junior setter Maria Coelho led with 24 assists, while Isabella Rosania also notched two service aces to tie Mathis for the team lead versus Central Arkansas.

Louisiana Tech will return to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 as the Lady Techsters host in-state foe Northwestern State at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston.
