CHARLOTTE, N.C. - An early own goal by Louisiana Tech was too much to overcome as the Lady Techsters fell to the conference preseason favorite Charlotte, 3-0, on Friday night at Transamerica Field.

LA Tech (9-5-1, 1-4 C-USA) came in with renewed energy after a picking up its first C-USA win last weekend, but the confidence was rattled after they spotted the 49ers an early lead.

"The ball was patted into our own net off a corner and that set the tone for the rest of the game," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "We knew it was going to be a tough challenge and Charlotte's possession soccer and forward play proved to be too strong."

The corner kick came in the third minute by Charlotte (6-5-1, 3-2 C-USA) and was delivered into the box which deflected off a LA Tech defender on the goal line.

The Techsters spent the rest of the first period searching for the equalizer and Donya Salomon-Ali was doing everything to get it. The junior striker took four shots, all headers, with two being on goal.

LA Tech managed to stay within a score until halftime thanks to six saves by Kylee Seto.

To start the second half, Anna Lensing came in as keeper and on the first counter by Charlotte, was unable to get her hands on a low shot by Sara Trexler in the 47th minute to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

Ten minutes later, the 49ers got an insurance goal by Martha Thomas.

LA Tech now travels to the state of Virginia to take on Old Dominion on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT.
