RUSTON - It was another crucial game that resulted in another crucial win for Louisiana Tech.

Down 1-0 at halftime, the Lady Techsters scored two second half goals to complete the comeback with a 2-1 win over Marshall on Sunday evening at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

With the victory, LA Tech (12-5-2, 4-4-1 C-USA) swept the pair of weekend matches and is now right in the thick of earning a trip to the Conference USA tournament.

"We had an emotional high from Friday and we had just a short practice Saturday and we could tell very early on that they were over-emotional and not completely focused," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "It carried over into today in the first 15 minutes and you could see mental and physical tiredness.

"We took a lot of players out with the main job of getting fresh legs in there so at least they could get their second wind. In the second half, we turned our tactics on its head and really went for it."

Both defenses were compact and strong in the early going, allowing just one shot apiece in the first 15 minutes of play.

Then Marshall's (7-6-4, 4-3-2 C-USA) Sydney Arnold was starting to advance the ball deeper and deeper into its attacking third down the right wing and in the 30th minute the strike came on a cross into the box that was chipped to the left corner by Kristine Culicerto for the 1-0 lead.

For the rest of the first period, coach Sherry made multiple substitutions with the hope of conserving some energy for the second half.

The move worked. Just three minutes into the second period, Brittany Beddow delivered a long ball to Kathryn Sloan who was able to split the center backs and then beat the goalkeeper 1-on-1 from 15 yards out to the upper left corner for the equalizer.

The goal was the 11th of the season for Sloan and the assist was the eighth for Beddow which ties the single season program record.

Later on in the 62nd minute, several bodies were in the box when the ball got loose on a hard tackle by a Thundering Herd player. The ball found Beddow who hit a diving shot that got through the chaos and past the keeper. However, the head referee called a foul in the box prior to the goal.

The clock was stopped and Beddow stepped up to take the penalty kick, a spot she has gone 2-for-2 in this season. Beddow made it 3-for-3 as her left-footed shot clipped off the keeper's hand and into the net giving LA Tech a 2-1 advantage.

From there, the Techster defense stayed tight along the line, but Marshall had two chances to send the game into overtime in the final five minutes, but shots by Arnold and Kristine Culicerto missed high and right.

Sloan took a game-high five shots of the team's nine. Kylee Seto earned the victory with four saves to her credit.

LA Tech now has 13 points going into the finale, a very similar position they were in a year ago when they fell to Rice that ended their season.

"I am happy that we put ourselves in the position to go into the final day," Sherry said. "I am hoping we learned from last year and that whole scenario. We have done so well that we should be confident going in but not over-confident. We know it is going to be hard."

LA Tech concludes the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in a home match versus Florida Atlantic.
