RUSTON - A second half goal by Middle Tennessee was all the Blue Raiders needed as they defeated Louisiana Tech, 1-0, on Friday night at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

LA Tech (8-4-1, 0-3 C-USA) was held scoreless and lost for the third straight match in conference play in what was an intense game from start to finish.

"It was a close game," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "We said whichever team takes advantage of one mistake is the team that is going to win. One of our players stepped in to try to win a tackle and an opposing player got past her to set up the goal. They made mistakes, but unfortunately we did not capitalize."

Middle Tennessee (4-6-1, 1-2 C-USA) did not play like a road team to start the match as they recorded four shots and four corner kicks in the first eight minutes of action.

After settling down, the Techsters had a golden opportunity to get on the scoreboard first when in the 19th minute Brittany Beddow unleashed a line drive shot that the Blue Raiders Kelsey Brouwer leaped and deflected off her hand just enough to make the ball hit the crossbar.

That tremendous save kept it at nil-nil and that was the score at the halfway point.

Each team traded shots in the early going of the second period, but in the 55th minute Middle Tennessee's Tori Hawkins, who was active all night on the wings, dribbled down the left flank to set up the game-winner.

Instead of passing it out wide to the corner, she hit a through ball inside to Grace Summers who charged towards the goal and beat Kylee Seto from eight yards out over her left shoulder.

From there, LA Tech only managed three shots, none of which were on goal.

For the match, the Blue Raiders held a 15-11 shot advantage and a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Kailee Hervey led the team with four shots in 71 minutes of action.

LA Tech returns to its home pitch on Sunday when they take on UAB at 1 p.m.
