BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic hit .379 as a team and had five players hit over .400 as the Owls overpowered Louisiana Tech, 3-0 (11-25, 15-25, 20-25), on Friday night at FAU Arena in Boca Raton.
LA Tech (9-20, 1-14 C-USA) struggled on the offensive attack, as the Lady Techsters hit .119 for the match with 31 kills and 20 attack errors. Florida Atlantic (18-11, 9-7 C-USA) countered with a .379 with 45 kills and just 12 errors to help lead the Owls to a Conference USA victory over LA Tech at home.
Florida Atlantic had just one attacking error in the first set, which allowed the Owls to cruise to a 25-11 first set victory thanks to 13 kills and a .571 hitting percentage. LA Tech struggled to begin the match with a .069 attacking mark and almost as many errors as kills.
Tech held FAU to a lower attacking percentage in the second with a .267 mark, but seven kills offset by six errors allowed the Owls to take a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-15 second set win.
With all the momentum, Florida Atlantic was all but ready to put away the match, but LA Tech had its best game of the night in the third set as the Lady Techsters hit .229 as a team. Rebecca Redgen had six kills in the third set alone and Tech had 14 overall, but FAU's .361 attacking percentage and 17 kills was too much to overcome as the Owls took the third set, 25-20, and the match with the a straight-set victory.
Redgen led the Lady Techsters with 14 kills and a .214 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks, while Adria Morales and Brooke Short combined for 27 of LA Tech's 30 assists. Defensively, the Lady Techsters totaled six blocks as a team with Hannah Wright leading the way for Tech with four blocks in the match.
Florida Atlantic was led by Ivana Bulajic, who had nine kills in the match, as well as four blocks, while Katarina Stepanovic totaled eight kills and five blocks to help lead the Owls to a victory.
The Lady Techsters will now travel to Miami to wrap up the season at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16 when they travel to face FIU at FIU Arena.
