NORFOLK, Va. - Kenneth Dixon ran for 106 yards and a touchdown and eclipsed the 3,000 yard rushing mark in his career, but the celebrations were muted in a 30-27 overtime loss at Old Dominion's Foreman Field on Saturday.

Louisiana Tech (7-4, 6-1 C-USA) dropped its first league game of the season as it struggled to contain Old Dominion's Taylor Heinicke in the second half and overtime as the Bulldogs could not hold on to a 24-14 halftime lead.

Heinicke, one of the top quarterbacks in the country, was 29-for-40 for 302 yards and two touchdowns but also threw four interceptions on the day including two to Tech's Adairius Barnes.

Old Dominion (5-6, 3-4 C-USA) kept its slim bowl chances alive with the win and prevented LA Tech from clinching Conference USA's West Division. The Bulldogs now face Rice next Saturday with the winner advancing to the C-USA Championship Game opposite Marshall.

Dixon was Tech's main target in overtime, gaining 17 all-purpose yards, but a pass to Paul Turner in the end zone would fall incomplete, prompting Kyle Fischer to kick a 25-yard field goal for a 27-24 Bulldog lead.

ODU responded with an eight-yard touchdown pass from Heinicke to David Washington to seal the comeback victory in the first meeting between the two schools.

Dixon recorded his 15th game running for over 100 yards, while Trent Taylor led the receivers with 92 yards on five catches and a touchdown.

Lloyd Grogan led the defense with seven total tackles while Barnes added six with his two interceptions.

Tech's defense registered 11 tackles for a loss of 36 yards on the Monarchs while Bryson Abraham and Kentrell Brice joined Barnes for a total of four interceptions. Abraham's interception came with under a minute remaining in the fourth quarter as ODU had the chance to get a win in regulation, but LA Tech took over on its own five-yard line.

The Bulldogs held a 24-14 lead at halftime as Dixon surpassed the 3,000 career rushing mark in the second quarter as the junior broke a 7-7 tie in the second quarter with a seven-yard touchdown run to give Tech a 14-7 lead.

Marlon Seets scored nearly three minutes later as Tech led 21-7 before Heinicke found Washington for a 26-yard touchdown pass to cut the Bulldog lead to 21-14. As time expired, Tech's Kyle Fischer converted a 43-yard field goal attempt.

Trent Taylor had the first score of the game with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Sokol to give LA Tech a 7-0 lead with three seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Louisiana Tech held the ball for less than two minutes in the entire third quarter but the Bulldog defense never yielded, allowing only a 46-yard field goal by ODU's Satchel Ziffer to cut the Tech lead to 24-17.

Louisiana Tech returns to action on Nov. 29 as the Bulldogs host Rice at Joe Aillet Stadium with an 11 a.m. CT kickoff.
