Hamilton Earns C-USA Player of the Week

Dec. 8, 2014

IRVING, Texas - As a result of leading Louisiana Tech in scoring in two wins over Northwestern State and Jackson State, Alex Hamilton earned Conference USA Player of the Week as voted on by a media panel representing the 14 member schools.

It marks the first C-USA Player of the Week honor for a Bulldog and the second of Hamilton's career.

The last time the Chipley, Fla. native earned the award was after putting up a career-high 31 points at Oklahoma last season.

This time he earns it after coming up just one point short of tying that scoring mark in the 99-88 victory at NSU. He played a career-high 37 minutes, largely due to Kenneth Smith being in foul trouble.

Smith sat the bench for 11 minutes of action in the second half and that is when Hamilton took over at the point guard position and took over the game, scoring a game-high 30 which ties for the third most by a C-USA player this season. In the process, he had zero turnovers.

The junior returned to the court on Saturday at home against Jackson State and led LA Tech in scoring again with 13 points in the 65-52 victory. The `Dogs forced JSU into 22 turnovers and Hamilton played a key role in that, coming up with four steals.

Hamilton and Co. take their six-game winning streak into Lafayette on Wednesday night when they face longtime in-state foe Louisiana-Lafayette at 7 p.m. in the Cajun Dome.
