RUSTON - After two tough road losses this weekend, Louisiana Tech got back on track on a chilly Sunday evening with a 7-0 shutout victory over Jackson State at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
The tone was set in doubles for LA Tech (13-4) by sweeping all three and then it carried over into singles with five wins in straight sets and a third set tiebreaker win by Manoela Chiacchio at No. 5.
"We performed well today," said head coach Chad Camper. "Execution was pretty good throughout the match. We look forward to getting some much needed rest and getting prepared for the final stretch of the regular season."
For the time first this spring season, Melanie Urvoy and Alexandra Starkova teamed up in doubles. The combo worked as they pulled out an 8-1 victory followed by Jazmin Britos and Marta Sramkova winning 8-2 to clinch the doubles point.
Starkova helped get the team's second point of the match as well by defeating Angela Condorelli, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1.
Urvoy followed suit by overpowering Harshini Reddy, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. Sealing the 13th win of the season for the Lady Techsters was Marta Sramkova who won 6-1, 6-0 over Akshatha Anath at No. 3.
Insurance wins came from Jazmin Britos, Taly Merker and Chiacchio.
LA Tech stays home next weekend when they play host to in-state foe Northwestern State on Sunday, March 30. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
