@LATechGolf to Face National Powers at Lone Star Invitational

March 23, 2014

RUSTON, La. - After two weeks off Louisiana Tech's golf team returns to action with a challenging task as the Bulldogs will face several national powers at the Lone Star Invitational hosted by UTSA beginning Monday morning.

No. 20 New Mexico, No. 25 Baylor and No. 38 Purdue highlight the 15-team field in a tournament that will be played at Briggs Ranch Golf Club, host of one of six NCAA Regional sites this year.

The Bulldogs enter the tournament ranked 109th in the nation, having moved up 20 spots over the last month with a pair of top-five finishes in their last two outings. LA Tech finished second at the Argent Financial Classic and then placed fourth at the Louisiana Classics.

In all, seven of the 14 other programs competing in the tournament are ranked higher than Louisiana Tech in the recent national rankings by GolfStat.com, providing another opportunity for Tech to move up.

Other challenging teams the Bulldogs will face at the Lone Star Invitational include Southeastern Louisiana (ranked 70th), North Texas (74th) , Notre Dame (100th) and Central Arkansas (102nd).

The tournament will feature two rounds of a total 36 holes on Monday followed by a single round of 18 holes on Tuesday. LA Tech will be paired with Rice, Sacramento State and UT Arlington on Monday. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT.

Senior Travis Wilmore leads a group of five Bulldogs into the tournament including Victor Lange, Jack Lempke, Ben Robinson and Chuck Spears.

Live results for the tournament will be available at GolfStat.com.
