RUSTON - The speed of Louisiana Tech proved too much for Louisiana-Lafayette to handle as the Lady Techsters shutout the in-state foe, 2-0, on Friday night at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

Playing through a misty rain through much of the match, LA Tech (6-0-1) managed to remain unbeaten on the season thanks to goals by Kathryn Sloan and Brittany Beddow.

"In certain areas our speed was the difference, especially with Madison Doll at the back and Katie Sloan up top," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "Nicole Jaquemet and Anne Armstrong's play and energy in the middle of the field, even though they were outnumbered, also gave us a good foundation to which we built on during the match."

The Techsters pressed high early and often trying to force turnovers from the Ragin' Cajuns. In the 28th minute, they were finally able to capitalize thanks to Sloan.

As the lone striker in the formation, the sophomore took on a defender and won a 50/50 ball. She then dribbled around and set up a 20-yard strike that hit in the far right corner to give LA Tech a 1-0 advantage.

Seven minutes later, Tech thought they had scored their second goal after a combo pass started by Jenny Bitzer went to Sloan who crossed it into the six-yard box where Taylor Dennis netted the ball, but the referee called her offside nullifying the goal.

The Techsters continued to control possession versus ULL (3-3) into the second period, and that pressure earned the team a penalty kick try in the 54th minute after a charging Armstrong was fouled just inside the box.

Beddow took it and buried it into the left corner with the Ragin' Cajun goalkeeper Alexias Stricklin guessing the wrong way. That marked the junior's team-leading fifth goal of the season and her second successful penalty kick this year.

The clean sheet went to Kylee Seto who recorded two saves on the night. LA Tech held a 12-5 shot advantage for the match.

Tech wraps up the weekend with a match at Mississippi State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at MSU Soccer Field. The contest will be streamed live on ESPN3 as part of the SEC Network.
